With a change to one unsupervised tennis court from October 24 through November 15, please carefully review the updated rules below before playing tennis at the WSTC, as we need club members to fully comply with them for everyone’s safety.

WSTC Tennis Access & Safe Play Procedures

Due to the current pandemic, the following additional WSTC tennis rules have been implemented to help protect tennis players, staff and spectators. All club members are required to sign a WSTC COVID-19 waiver in order to access the tennis facility. These rules are in addition to the other regular WSTC Tennis Rules listed on the WSTC website, but also supersede the regular tennis rules in any instances where there is a conflict. These additional tennis rules could further change as the State and/or Town adjust their pandemic response. While these rules should help provide for safe tennis play, you ultimately use the WSTC tennis courts at your own risk.

I. Limitations on Who Can Use the WSTC Tennis Courts:

Non-club members (i.e., guests) will not be permitted to access WSTC facilities (and are not allowed to play tennis at the WSTC) until further notice.

Spectators within the tennis facility will be limited to individuals supervising minor children who are playing tennis. Spectators must wear face coverings or maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from any other spectator, player or WSTC staff in the tennis facility.

Children under age 12 require supervision at all times on club grounds. Please do not leave young children alone at the courts.

Per the CDC and USTA, do not visit the WSTC tennis facilities if any of the following applies to you:

  • Exhibiting any symptoms of the coronavirus: mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC.

  • Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

  • Are a vulnerable individual. A vulnerable individual is an elderly individual and/or an individual with serious underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma and those whose immune system is compromised such as by chemotherapy for cancer and other conditions requiring such therapy.

II. Reserving and Accessing WSTC Tennis Courts:

In order to utilize a WSTC tennis court, you are required to have a court reservation, which can be made via the WSTC web-based tennis court reservation system. This supports adherence with pandemic contact tracing rules.

If you have problems setting up an account or scheduling a court online please send an email to for IT assistance.

While entering and leaving the tennis facility:

  • Avoid touching the hand rails, gates, fencing and tennis nets.

  • Use cleaning supplies near the tennis gate to wipe down high touch surfaces.

  • Stay at least 6 feet apart from non-household members.

  • Wear a face covering until you arrive at your tennis court and are more than 6 feet apart from other players outside of your own household. This applies when leaving the court as well.

  • Use hand sanitizer shortly before and after play.

There will be no bathrooms, Porta Potty or water available at the WSTC until the pool area opens, so please make arrangements ahead of your visit to the WSTC tennis courts.

III. Playing Tennis

Singles and doubles tennis play is allowed between all club members and is no longer limited to only two households per court. However, players need to observe 6 foot social distancing rules with players from a different household when playing doubles, while interacting with opponents, during warm-up, play, changing sides, dispute resolution, congratulations, and water breaks.

A new can of tennis balls or used tennis balls that have been disinfected since last used are required when tennis play involves players from multiple households.

Regular Tennis Rules

The purpose of these tennis rules is to help provide the most opportunities for all interested club members to learn and play tennis.

Court Use

  1. Courts are available from 7:30 am until dusk, when weather permits.

  2. Members must sign in at the front desk or via the online court reservation system before playing. Members are also responsible for registering their guests and paying guest fees.

  3. During Prime Time hours, members age 16 or older may reserve Courts 1-4, and both juniors (under 16) and adults may reserve Court 5. Prime Time is defined as:

    • Weekdays: 5:00 pm until dusk

    • Weekends and holidays: 7:30 am until dusk

  4. Juniors must relinquish Courts 1-4 during Prime Time if requested to do so by an adult member. Juniors may, however, play with adult members during primetime.

  5. During the off-season, from November 1 to April 1, tennis nets will be taken down, except for the net on Court 1. Also, from April 1 to the opening of the WSTC and from the closing of the WSTC to November 1, non-members are not allowed to use the courts unless playing with a member or with approval of the Board of Directors. During the club season, non-members can use the courts as per the WSTC guest policy.

Court Conduct & Activities

  1. Proper dress is required to play on the courts, including a shirt, shorts/pants/skirt (or one-piece tennis outfit), and tennis shoes. No bathing suits are allowed, except underneath the proper dress attire described above.

  2. Use of more than 3 balls on Courts 3, 4, or 5 is only allowed during lessons, clinics, or when the neighboring court is not in use.

  3. Tennis play has priority over backboard use.

  4. During primetime hours, adult tennis clinics and club matches sanctioned by the Head Pro and/or Tennis Chairperson(s) may occupy 4 courts; one tennis court will be made available to members for recreational play, if reserved in advance by an adult member. If not reserved by the start of a scheduled clinic or club match, the fifth court may be used by said clinic or match if desired.

  5. Junior tennis clinics may occupy up to 5 courts if needed during 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on non-holiday weekdays. If junior clinics are not at capacity, tennis courts will be made available to members for recreational play via reservation online or via the front desk.

  6. For private lessons, the tennis pros may reserve a maximum of 2 courts at the same time.

Court Reservations

  1. Court reservations can only be made by a member, either by contacting the WSTC front desk during open club hours or via the online reservation system at any time.

  2. Reservations may be made up to 7 days in advance, and each club family may make up to 2 court reservations in any 7-day period, provided that each reservation is made by a differing family member. (No individual may make a second reservation without having yet played their first reservation.) Any court reservations made beyond these limits may be deleted by club staff or Tennis chairperson(s) without notice.

  3. Court reservations are to be limited to 1 hour for singles play and 1.5 hours for doubles play. If a doubles reservation is used for singles play, the last ½ hour of the reservation will be canceled. Members may play beyond their reservation time if no one comes to use the court.

  4. A reservation must be used by at least one member of the club reserving the court. Reservation privileges are not transferable between families.

  5. If a member of the reserving family and at least one other player have not arrived at the reserved court by 10 minutes past the reservation time, the reservation will be considered canceled and the court can be reassigned. A waiting list will be maintained at the front desk for purposes of reassigning canceled courts when needed. Discretion will be used in order to assign these fairly.

  6. Block reservations (reserving more than one court) may be made only for functions approved by the Club Manager, Head Tennis Pro and/or Tennis Chairperson(s).
